5 Search Engine Optimization Tips
1. Compress Images for faster page loading
Google penalize slow websites. Compress images using a tool such as compressjpeg.com or a plugin to reduce file sizes without sacrificing quality
2. Add featured images to pages and posts (and don’t forget to image alt text)
Make sure you set featured images for your posts and pages. These images appear when posts and pages are shared on social media platforms. Additional tip: Add alt image text that includes the keywords you want to rank for. This has implications for SEO, but more importantly, accessibility.
3. Keep page and site content fresh
Keep your website content fresh: Google likes websites that are up-to-date. You can keep your website fresh by modifying page content, adding pages, or posting blog content. Adding new content and pages increases ranking opportunities.
4. Optimize text structure
Check your heading and paragraph structure: Only one H1 (or Heading 1) should be used per page. Google looks at headings, and page structures to understand your website. Make sure H1, H2, H3, H#, and paragraph text are used appropriately.
5. Utilize an SEO Plugin
Add an SEO plugin to optimize your website. Squarespace has a built-in SEO plugin. For Wordpress, my go-to SEO plugin is Yoast SEO. They make optimizing website pages easy. Plus the free version of Yoast SEO is more than sufficient for most websites.
